Director's Message
Dear esteemed colleagues, partners and friends,
I am honored to introduce the Kala Azar Medical Research Centre (KAMRC), a pioneering institution dedicated to the elimination of Kala Azar disease from its roots. Established in 1994 under the SITARAM MEMORIAL TRUST, KAMRC has been steadfastly working towards this goal under the visionary leadership of Prof. (Dr.) Shyam Sundar, a renowned expert in the field of Kala Azar. Currently, I, Mr. Anil Sharma, have had the privilege of administering KAMRC for the past two decades, driven by a passion to eradicate this devastating disease.
KAMRC is recognized by both the state and central governments of the Republic of India and has been instrumental in advancing our understanding of Kala Azar through cutting-edge research and innovative diagnostic methods. Our team of dedicated scientists, doctors, para-medical personnel, and non-technical volunteers from diverse backgrounds has worked tirelessly to achieve our objectives. We have made significant strides in developing effective treatments, such as miltefosine and single-dose liposomal amphotericin B (AmBisome), which have dramatically reduced the incidence of Kala Azar in India and neighboring countries.
Our research endeavors have also focused on improving diagnostic tools, including the rapid rK39 strip test, which has revolutionized the diagnosis of Kala Azar. This test, developed by Prof. Sundar and his team, allows for accurate diagnosis in just 10 minutes using a drop of blood, making it a vital tool in the fight against this disease.
At KAMRC, we recognize that the elimination of Kala Azar requires a multifaceted approach that incorporates both therapeutic interventions and public health measures. Our efforts in vector control, community education, and awareness campaigns have been crucial in reducing the transmission of the disease. We are committed to continuing our research and outreach programs to ensure that Kala Azar is eventually eradicated from our region.
I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to all the individuals who have contributed to KAMRC's mission over the years. Your unwavering dedication and commitment have been instrumental in our progress. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of those affected by Kala Azar and ultimately achieve our goal of eliminating this disease.
